Greenbelt resident Abed Jonathan Midence-Lopez, 39, and Luis Samuel Rios Rodriguez, 35, who has no fixed address, are both in custody following a midday incident at Barriles Restaurant & Sports Bar in Tacoma Park.

Shortly after 2:45 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 18, members of the Takoma Park Police Department responded to the restaurant in the 7600 block of New Hampshire Avenue, where there was a report of shots fired inside.

Upon arrival, officers located Midence-Lopez and Rodriguez exiting the building, and they were quickly brought into custody and identified as suspects.

Midence-Lopez suffered non-life-threatening injuries during the incident, and was transported to an area hospital for evaluation, while Rodriguez was transported to police headquarters, officials said.

Their alleged victim suffered multiple gunshot wounds and was treated at the scene by officers until paramedics rushed him to the hospital in critical condition.

The initial investigation found that Midence-Lopez and Rodriguez were involved in a verbal argument that required security to intervene and separate the two parties. They were escorted out of the bar and Rodriguez later returned with a gun to confront his victim.

Police say that a physical altercation started that ended with Rodriguez shooting his victim, whose name or age was not released.

A weapon and shell casings were both recovered by officers, investigators noted.

  • Rodriguez was charged with:
  • Attempted first-degree murder;
  • First-degree assault;
  • Use of a firearm in the commission of a felony;
  • Second-degree assault.

Midence-Lopez was charged with conspiracy to all of the charges Rodriguez is facing. Both are being held at the Montgomery County Central Processing Unit pending their next court appearance.
